The Gatto Table lamp is a discreet yet sculptural lamp, emitting a soft and diffused light. An iconic lamp designed by Achille and Giacomo Castiglioni in 1960 for Flos, the Gatto references the form of Oriental rice paper lamps. The internal structure of the lamp is comprised of a streamlined, powder-coated steel rod in white. Whilst the exterior shell is made from a resin known as Cocoon, which is sprayed to the shell structure, creating a fine mesh layer. This diffusing layer is later protected with an additional transparent finish.
Cocoon is a synthetic fibre made of plastic polymers, first used by the U.S. army to preserve un-used wartime vehicles. The Castiglioni brothers, found a new purpose for the material, giving new context to a timeless lighting design. Also available in a larger version.
An integrated, dimmable switch allows for easy adjustments to brightness.
