Aria Journal:
Take a trip to The Acid House
From the 3.10.17 ‘The Acid House’ takes over Aria with a unique celebration of Art and London’s infamous underground rave scene of the 1990’s in conjunction with the iconic Frieze Art Fair in London.
Influenced by a well-spent youth playing pixelated games and dancing in disused warehouses, Carl Cashman creates stunning, vibrant and brilliantly hypnotic optical art. He favours a traditional style pen and paper draughtsmanship over using digital platforms and he often uses UV reactive paint to add a further visual element when seen in different lighting environments.
His work is influenced by the likes of MC Escher, Sol Lewitt, Barry Mcgee and the decor at free parties and raves, LSD trips and heroic doses of DMT. Since he began painting in 2014, his work has been exhibited all over the world, having sold out a debut solo show in Portland, Oregon. Now Carl uses his contact base to curate events and artwork for festivals and galleries. He has also produced work on a bigger scale for festivals such as Glastonbury, Boomtown, Obonjan and Unknown Croatia.
Both artist and curator, Carl invites an array of established artists to explore and interpret the notion of acid; the lineup includes Slinkachu, Mr Jago, Static, Mr Penfold, Ryca, Daniel David, Rosie Lee Wilson, Laurie Vincent, Daisy Parris and War boutique culminating in a unique installation at our Islington showroom.
Original and limited edition print artwork will be available to purchase and a variety of other merchandise including t-shirts, jewellery, plates, bags and accessories which are exclusive to Aria.
