Lapuan Kankurit’s Venla tablecloth honours both Finnish craftsmanship and the country’s rich literary heritage. Designed by Elina Helenius, it is woven from melange linen yarns whose two-tone interplay creates a lively, subtly variegated surface. A gently contrasting stripe, crafted from a thicker yarn, introduces a refined rhythm and a touch of sculptural texture.
The Venla collection draws its inspiration from the coarse linen shirts described in Aleksis Kivi’s beloved novel Seven Brothers, as well as from the character Venla herself, admired by each of the brothers. Made from certified long-fibre flax grown in Central Europe and cultivated using only natural rainwater, the textiles are not only durable but naturally sustainable. The tablecloths are woven at Lapuan Kankurit’s own mill in Western Finland—fittingly named “the weavers of Lapua”—where generations of expertise are carried forward through thoughtful, precise craftsmanship.
