Timex Story

Timex can be traced as far back as Waterbury, Connecticut in 1854, a time when how you made something was as important as what you made. As the brass industry boomed, they opened Waterbury Clock Company. The result of bringing American ingenuity to European clockmaking was mass-production 40 years before the model T and a $6 watch that almost everyone could afford to use. By 1901, over one million of the one-dollar Yankee pocket watch had been sold. Then, a simple idea revolutionised timekeeping: welding on loops to hold a strap and with a twist of the wrist, the world no longer kept time in their pocket. Timex brand watches arrived in 1950 with the V-conic, the first high-quality, mass-produced watch. By the end of the decade, every third watch sold was a Timex. In 1984 Timex introduced the world’s first sports watch, crossing millions of finishing lines. Their signature INDIGLO® Night-Light, introduced in 1992, revolutionised the way the world read time in the dark, and we haven’t looked back since.
