Aria is proud to be hosting an event with the designer of Misho jewellery, Suhani Parekh.
We had the chance to asked Suhani some of our burning questions about her business:
How do you find inspiration for new designs?
"Our clients and the women in my life play muse for me when it comes to my design, so the pieces themselves are very much a reflection of who these women are."
When did you know you wanted to design jewellery?
"I have always had a love for fashion, so while I was working in sculpture I started to think that certain designs would look amazing as an earring or a necklace etc. Eventually I began to experiment with making pieces for just myself, and things grew from there."
What's the process you go through in the design and production of a new piece?
"My designs can come from a solid idea or sometimes just doodling in my sketchbook. I love to put things into sketches or 3D models to really visualise things. In terms of production, sometimes there is a bit of experimentation that happens - we need to make sure that what I envision is possible to make! We use a variety of ancient techniques to make our pieces, so even choosing the right technique becomes a part of the production process."
What do you enjoy the most about your business?
"The thing I love about MISHO is that we are a design studio that happens to make jewellery at the moment. As much as I love doing that, I know that we don't have a limit in terms of what we can make, which is really exciting."
Why do you think you have such a big celebrity following?
"It's honestly really an honour to have the celebrity following that MISHO does have. Celebrities and their teams discovering our brand have honestly come quite organically and had a snowball effect. I think our pieces just stand on their own really well, whether it's a mini hoop or a statement choker, so they work for all kinds of events."
Do you have any advice for young designers trying to start up their own jewellery business?
"There's always a nervousness that comes with starting your own business and sharing your art and designs with the world. But knowing that they're something you love should be the biggest focus. There are so many of the same things in the world, so just be yourself and tell a different story with your designs. And know that some things just take time - be willing to learn and grow."
